Bihar Muslim MLAs: This time, even before the elections, many political parties made big promises to win over Muslim voters. They continually accused rival groups of disregarding the community.
It appears Muslim voters failed to consolidate, which eventually reduced the community's overall representation in the assembly.
Last year, under the Adl-o-Insaf Front, Muslim leaders passed a resolution demanding representation in Parliament and Assembly in proportion to their population. Looking at the numbers and results, it seems that demand has been rejected.
Except for 1985, the number of Muslim MLAs has never crossed 10 per cent. The only Muslim Chief Minister, Abdul Ghafoor, led Bihar for less than two years in the 1970s. In the Bihar election 2025, only 34 Muslim candidates were fielded by various parties, while Muslims make up 17.7 per cent of Bihar’s population. The RJD fielded the highest with 18 Muslim candidates.
