Bihar Elections 2025: With just a few months left in the much-hyped Bihar assembly election, both the major alliances, NDA and INDIA-Bloc, have commenced their seat-sharing talks. While the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led NDA will try to repeat the government, the opposition alliance under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav will try to make a comeback after a decade. However, Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj is also set to spice up Bihar politics with its promises of change in the state. One of the most politically relevant districts of Bihar is Banka, with five assembly constituencies.

While the Congress had maintained an undisputed dominance on all five seats for the first 30 years after the independence, the grand old party has not won even a single seat in the last three decades. Congress's last major victory in Banka came in the 1985 assembly elections; however, it was an old subdivision of Bhagalpur district at that time. The grand old party won all five seats in the 1985 assembly elections, making it the largest party in the region.

Congress had previously managed to win anywhere from one to five seats in every assembly election except for the Emergency-era election of 1977. During the Bihar Assembly elections from 1952 to 1985, Congress repeatedly asserted its dominance by winning all five seats in Banka. However, the party's downfall began in the 1990 Assembly elections after three of its candidates lost the election.

Congress fielded candidates in all five seats in the 2010 assembly elections, but none of its candidates could manage to win. However, the party's regional leadership is confident that the Congress will be able to open its account in the upcoming election.

"Congress has certainly not won a seat in Banka since 1990. There are many reasons for this, but we are rebuilding their organization. Congress is united with all its alliance partners for the 2025 assembly elections. We lost the last election in Amarpur by only three thousand votes, so Amarpur definitely has the first claim. After this, we are preparing to contest all five seats in the district with full strength," the party's District President Kanchana Kumari Singh was quoted as saying by Jagran.Com.
