Amidst the ongoing negotiations of seat sharing within the Mahagathbandhan, the Congress party has begun finalising the names of its candidates.
On Friday, the screening committee met online in Delhi to consider the nominations. The meeting was attended online from Patna by the party's Bihar in-charge Krishna Allawaru and state president Rajesh Ram, along with legislative party leader Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan and several other leaders. The meeting began at 11:00 AM and continued until 8:00 PM.
According to a report by Jagran.com, sources said that applications received from potential constituencies where the party will contest elections were re-screened. Leaders deliberated extensively on the applications received.
Following this, the names of the candidates are being finalised individually. According to the information, the names of approximately 36 candidates have been shortlisted so far. It is almost certain that they will receive the party symbol.
According to information received from the Congress sources, the seat-sharing within the Mahagathbandhan is expected within a day or two. Along with the seat-sharing announcement, the Congress will release the names of its first-phase candidates. The names of the second phase candidates are expected to be announced after October 15th.
The elections in Bihar have been scheduled in two phases. In the first phase, polling will be held at 121 assembly constituencies on November 6. Similarly, in the second phase, the polling will be held in the remaining 122 seats on November 11.
The counting of votes will be held on November 14. After the Election Commission announced the schedule, all the parties have intensified their efforts to conclude the seat-sharing agreement in case of alliance or announce candidates if contesting alone.
