The Bihar government has approved the creation of 237 additional academic posts across 38 state engineering colleges, including the Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT). The new posts include 150 Assistant Professors, 64 Associate Professors, and 23 Professors, sanctioned under the Department of Science, Technology, and Technical Education, in accordance with AICTE norms.
At the same time, approval has been granted for the surrender of 192 academic posts. Colleges have been formally notified by the department about the changes.
At MIT, a total of 18 new posts have been created: 12 Assistant Professors, five Associate Professors, and one Professor. Previously, MIT had 67 Assistant Professor posts, 25 Associate Professor posts, and 15 Professor posts.
As part of the restructuring, nine posts have been surrendered, including two Professor posts in Civil, one Assistant Professor post each in Mechanical and Electrical, and others in Computer Science and Bachelor of Pharmacy. No posts were surrendered in Electronics & Communication, IT, Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering, or Biomedical & Robotics Engineering.
Meanwhile, the admission process for 580 B.Tech seats across 10 branches at MIT has been completed for the 2025-26 session. Two new courses have been introduced, including one entirely new programme and one renamed course.

-Civil – 60
-Mechanical – 60
-Electrical – 60
-ECE – 60
-IT – 60
-Chemical Technology – 30
-Chemical Engineering – 30
-Biomedical & Robotics – 60
-Computer Science – 60
-Bachelor of Pharmacy – 100
For the first time, six new posts have been created in Chemical Engineering. Overall, MIT’s faculty expansion aims to strengthen teaching capacity and support the growing student intake across branches.
