The Bihar government has approved several welfare measures for advocates in the state. All new advocates enrolled from January 1, 2024, will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for three years, to be disbursed through the Bihar State Bar Council.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced on Sunday that, at the request of state advocate associations, a one-time grant of Rs 5 lakh will be provided to establish e-libraries. Additionally, the Bihar Advocates’ Welfare Trust Committee will receive Rs 30 crore in aid.

Advocates with incomes below the income tax threshold will be eligible for support from the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund. Provisions will also be made for women’s toilets (“Pink Toilets”) for female lawyers in advocate associations.

Samrat Choudhary emphasised that the NDA government led by Nitish Kumar is committed to strengthening the judicial system. He added that providing adequate resources, infrastructure, and a conducive environment to lawyers, officials, and staff will ensure timely and effective justice for the public.
