The Department of Mines and Geology has imposed its annual ban on riverbed mining across Bihar from June 15, which will remain in force until October, given the monsoon season. To address potential sand shortages during this period, the department has assigned key responsibilities to district-level mining officials.

According to an official statement, citizens facing difficulties in procuring sand during the ban can directly contact their respective District Mining Officers (DMOs). Contact numbers of DMOs are available on the department’s official website.

To avoid disruption in development works, the department has also informed various executing departments that arrangements can be made to supply sand from designated ghats. In addition, the department has instructed all District Magistrates to release sand seized during anti-illegal mining raids to these departments at government-approved rates.

The move aims to promote legal mining practices while maintaining the momentum of infrastructure and construction projects across the state. In line with this, the Department of Mines and Geology will hold a meeting with all district mining officials in Patna on June 19 to streamline the supply process and enforce compliance.
