In a major push for rural self-employment and livestock-based income generation, the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department of Bihar has launched multiple subsidy-backed dairy schemes for unemployed youth and farmers.
The schemes—Desi Gaupalan Yojana, Samagra Buffalo Rearing Yojana, and Samagra Gavya Vikas Yojana—offer financial support of up to 75 per cent of the total project cost for eligible applicants. The department has invited online applications at (http://dairy.bihar.gov.in), and the last date to apply is July 25. So far, 6,321 applications have been received.
This scheme provides financial aid to farmers for purchasing one or two high-breed milk buffaloes.
-For Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the subsidy is 75 per cent
-For Other Categories, the subsidy is 50 per cent
-Fixed cost: Rs 1,21,000 for one buffalo and Rs 2,42,000 for two
Subsidy amounts:
-SC/ST: Rs 90,750 (one buffalo), Rs 1,81,500 (two)
-Others: Rs 60,500 (one), Rs 1,21,000 (two)
These schemes promote the rearing of indigenous cows through loan and subsidy benefits. Units of two or four high-breed milch cows or heifers are eligible.
-Cost: Rs 1.74 lakh (two cattle) and Rs 3.90 lakh (four cattle)
Subsidy:
-EBC/SC/ST: 75 per cent
-Others: 50 per cent
This scheme supports larger dairy setups with two, four, fifteen, or twenty cattle units.
Fixed costs:
-Rs 1.74 lakh (two cattle)
-Rs 3.90 lakh (four cattle)
-Rs 15.34 lakh (fifteen cattle)
-Rs 20.22 lakh (twenty cattle)

The schemes are part of the Bihar government's initiative to encourage self-employment through dairy entrepreneurship, especially in rural areas.
