With the arrival of monsoon, the risk of dengue has surged across Bihar, prompting the Health Department to issue an alert to all districts. In response, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Pratyaya Amrit, held a high-level video conference with District Magistrates, Civil Surgeons, and officials from other key departments on Wednesday, emphasising preventive measures and hospital preparedness.
Officials were instructed to take immediate steps to prevent waterlogging, particularly in urban areas, where dengue cases tend to spike. Regular spraying of DDT and Gmaxine powder has been mandated in mosquito-prone areas.
Hospitals have also been directed to reserve beds for dengue patients and intensify public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about cleanliness and protection against mosquito bites.
In a related development, the Health Department is set to establish 'Rogi Kalyan Samitis' (Patient Welfare Committees) in 35 districts where Sadar Hospitals are operational. The department has sent the list of nominated members to the districts and urged them to form the committees at the earliest.
Each committee will have eight nominated members and will function under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate, with the Civil Surgeon serving as the secretary. These committees will play a crucial role in enhancing hospital management, service quality, and function as a governing body for healthcare improvements at the district level.
