Bihar Heatwave News: The scorching heatwave sweeping across Bihar has taken a heavy toll on the state's school-going population. Temperatures as high as 48 degrees Celsius in certain regions have had an impact, with reports of 12 casualties, including a sub-inspector, due to heat stroke.
Bihar News: Govt, Private Schools To Be Closed
The situation has become increasingly dire, with the health of over 337 students and teachers deteriorating across the state. Some have even reported experiencing nosebleeds due to the extreme conditions. In response, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered the closure of all government, private schools, Anganwadi centres, and coaching institutes from May 30 to June 8, in an effort to safeguard the wellbeing of students.
Bihar Heatwave: Student, Staff Fall Sick Due To Heatwave
The decision to keep government schools operational from 6 am to 1 pm, while private schools declared summer holidays, has been criticised. Reports indicate that not only students but also teachers, cleaners, and cooks have fallen ill due to the unbearable heat, with some even fainting on the job.
Bihar Heatwave: Frustrated Parents Block Sheikhpura-Pakribarwan Road
On Wednesday, Sub Inspector Devnath Ram, assigned to election duty in Dehri of Karakat Lok Sabha constituency, passed away after collapsing from a heat stroke. Additionally, 88 students fell ill due to the heat, with 50 affected in Sheikhpura, 10 in Nawada, 8 in Gaya, 8 in Aurangabad, and 12 in Gopalganj. In response, angry parents have blocked the Sheikhpura-Pakribarwan road near Mankaul village, raising slogans against the Additional Chief Secretary.
