A step towards women's empowerment, the Nitish government in Bihar has launched a special scheme to boost employment for women. Named the 'MukhyamantriMahila Rozgar Yojana' (Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme), the main goal of this initiative is to provide financial help to one woman from every family to start a business of her choice.

What is the purpose of the MukhyamantriMahila Rozgar Yojana?

Under this scheme, one woman from each family will get a first installment of Rs 10,000 to start her chosen business. Once the woman starts her business, the government will conduct an assessment and, if needed, provide additional financial help of up to Rs 200,000. This initiative by the Bihar government will not only make women self-reliant but also give a boost to the state's economy.

Who will benefit from the MukhyamantriMahila Rozgar Yojana?

The government has clarified that for this scheme, a 'family' is defined as a husband, wife, and their unmarried children. An unmarried adult woman whose parents have passed away will be considered a one-person family and will get the benefits according to the rules. Additionally, all members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in urban areas (one woman per family) will be eligible for the benefits of this scheme.

Eligibility Conditions:

- The applicant's age must be between 18 and 60 years.

- Neither the applicant nor their spouse should be an income taxpayer.

- Neither the applicant nor their spouse should have a government job (permanent or contract).

How Women in Urban Areas Can Apply

- Women in urban areas need to visit the Jeevika website (www.brlps.in) to apply.

- The applicant must also upload scanned copies of her Aadhaar card, bank passbook (clearly showing name, account number, and IFSC code), a photograph, and her signature on a plain page.

- It is mandatory for women to join a Self-Help Group (SHG) to get the benefits of the scheme.

- After their online application is received, women who are not already in a group will be contacted by a Community Resource Person (CRP) from their area to help them join one. The scheme's benefits will only be provided after joining the group.

- Women in urban areas who are already members of an SHG do not need to apply online.

- The application link for women who are not SHG members is available on the Jeevika website.

- All applications received will be physically verified.

For women in rural areas, a special meeting will be held at the 'Gram Sangathan' (Village Organisation) level, where applications will be collected from all group members. Women who are not part of a Jeevika SHG must first apply in the required format to join an SHG to be eligible for the scheme's benefits.
