A newborn baby was dumped by a family on a train near Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district on June 22. The baby boy was delivered by a minor girl, who had become pregnant after her father allegedly raped her. She was being taken to Delhi by train “for treatment”, as per news agency ANI.
The teen girl's water broke on the train and she delivered the baby in the toilet when the train was near Varanasi. The girl and the family deboarded after putting the baby in a bag that they kept inside the toilet of another train, jagran.com reported.
When the Patna-Chandigarh Summer Special train reached Bareilly, some vendors heard the baby's cries. The umbilical cord of the baby was still not cut off, the report added.
The baby was taken to the TTE, who took the newborn to an air-conditioned coach to avoid the humid conditions. The baby was taken to Moradabad, where he was given medical care.
SIM From Bihar
The case became clear when a SIM card found in the bag was traced to Chhapra, Bihar.
"When traced, the owner of the SIM card told that the baby was of a minor girl relative of his, who had become pregnant after rape," Moradabad junction railway police station head Ravindra Vashistha told ANI. The family was in Chhapra, Bihar.
As per the girl, her father used to drink and sexually abuse her. This had been happening for over a year before she got pregnant.
“The girl from Chhapra in Bihar was brought to Moradabad and her statement was recorded in front of a woman magistrate. The girl told the magistrate about being raped by her alcoholic father. Other relatives including her aunt had accompanied the girl. After recording her statement, the girl has returned with her family. The case will be transferred to Chhapra police for further investigation,” Ravinder Vashishtha, Police Station Incharge, GRP said.
On the basis of the girl's statement, Chhapra police will add the rape charges in the case and arrest the father. For now, the baby is with the Child Welfare Committee in Moradabad, its chief Amit Kaushal was quoted as saying.
