Panic erupted in the surgery block of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday evening when a dead scorpion was found in the food served to patients. The incident occurred in the orthopaedic ward on the second floor, leaving patients and their attendants alarmed.

According to reports, the food was distributed between 7 and 8 pm. A female patient, unaware of the presence of the scorpion, mistook it for a fried chilli and began eating. Her relatives immediately intervened, removing the plate and inducing vomiting. The patient has since been reported to be in stable condition.

Patients and attendants expressed their frustration over repeated lapses in hospital food hygiene, claiming that proper meals are often not provided.

Hospital superintendent Dr Sheela Kumari confirmed the incident, stating that the food had been served from Jeevika Didi’s kitchen. She said the staff has been warned and advised to improve standards, or further action would be taken.
