Bihar’s Purnia Airport: In a major development for Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced that the construction of Purnia Airport will be completed by September 5, with air travel bookings starting from September 1.

The long-awaited airport, located near the IAF airbase in Chunapur approximately 10 km from the district headquarters is set to begin commercial flight operations to Delhi and Kolkata under the Central Government's UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. Officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that the project is in its final phase, with finishing work underway on the new interim terminal building.

PM Modi to Inaugurate Purnia Airport On September 15

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the airport and launch the first commercial flight from Purnia on September 15. On Friday, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary visited the airport premises along with Union Minister Lallan Singh, JDU National Working President Sanjay Jha, and State Minister Leshi Singh.

Arriving from Patna by helicopter, the leaders inspected the ongoing construction work and issued necessary instructions to both the district administration and AAI officials. According to Jagran.com, a review meeting was also held at the site, where the Deputy CM inquired about the remaining work in light of the PM’s scheduled visit.

"The work must be completed by September 5th," Chaudhary directed. In response, officials assured that "the work will be completed by September 5 at any cost."

The terminal is equipped with six check-in counters, one conveyor belt, and two hand baggage scanners in the security hold area, designed to ensure smooth operations during peak travel hours.

Vande Bharat Express To Begin Operations On THIS Date

Alongside the airport inauguration, Vande Bharat Express will also begin operations between Purnia and Patna from September 15. PM Modi will flag off the train during his visit.

Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary made this announcement at the Sadar Vidhan Sabha-level NDA conference held at Kalabhavan on Friday. He also mentioned that efforts are underway to extend the Vande Bharat Express to Jogbani station in the near future.
