In a move aimed at improving the working conditions of traffic police personnel, especially women officers, the Bihar Police has begun installing porta huts—portable cabin-like structures with resting space and toilet facilities—at key traffic locations across major cities in the state.
Initially rolled out in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and Bihar Sharif under a pilot project, these porta huts are now available at several key points in the state capital, including Kankarbagh and Patna Junction. The initiative is now set to be expanded to other urban centers in Bihar, with the Police Headquarters initiating the process for wider implementation.
Currently, traffic police personnel—particularly women—face difficulties due to the lack of basic amenities like toilets while on duty at busy intersections. With the increasing presence of women in the police force, this issue has become more pressing. In many instances, women officers have had to rely on nearby institutions for such facilities.
The porta hut offers a practical solution, as it is portable, easy to install or relocate, and does not require extensive construction or multiple permissions, which are often difficult to obtain in congested urban areas.
Senior officials at the Police Headquarters confirmed that the portable units will be installed at all major traffic posts across cities in a phased manner. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance comfort, hygiene, and convenience for officers managing traffic in demanding conditions.
