Bihar Election 2025: With just two weeks remaining in the Bihar Assembly election, both the key alliances, the NDA and Mahagathbandhan, have got involved in a war of words over their chief ministerial candidate. The opposition leaders questioned the NDA's face after declaring Tejashwi Yadav as their face on Thursday after a long tussle. While Nitish Kumar remains the front-runner for the post, the ruling alliance has not made any official announcement, leading to suspicion. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, after being declared the face, questioned the candidate of NDA for the top post. While the Home Minister Amit Shah clarified that the election is being fought under the leadership of the veteran JDU leader, he did not announce Nitish Kumar as the CM face.
Earlier in a joint press conference of Mahagathbandhan, Congress leader Ashok Gehlot announced Tejashwi Yadav as the chief ministerial candidate by stating that the alliance supports the vision of the young leader. “Tejashwi Yadav will be the INDIA bloc’s CM face in Bihar,” Gehlot announced. The Congress leader further questioned the face of the rival bloc. “The NDA has been in power for two decades, but this is the first time there’s uncertainty about who will head the government if they win. Who is your CM face?” Gehlot asked.
The ruling NDA has not clarified their candidate amid Nitish Kumar's alleged poor health and an anti-incumbency of almost two decades. However, several key leaders of the alliance, including Amit Shah and Union Minister Chirag Paswan, asserted that the election is being fought under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.
“I am not the one to decide whether Nitish Kumar will be CM or not. For now, we are contesting under his leadership. After the elections, all allies will sit together and decide their leader,” Shah replied when asked about NDA's CM face. While the chief ministerial face is crucial while contesting polls, the recent trend shows that the BJP has been fighting the elections on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's face and has decided on the chief minister later.
