Bihar Railway News: To manage the heavy rush of passengers during the Chhath festival in Bihar, the sale of platform tickets has been temporarily suspended at major railway stations under the Samastipur Railway Division, including Muzaffarpur.

This order will be in effect from October 28 to November 7. This will provide relief from unnecessary crowding at the station premises, thereby ensuring smooth passenger movement.

This will facilitate safe boarding and disembarkation for passengers, reducing the likelihood of accidents. This will also facilitate crowd control for railway personnel and security forces, ensuring orderly station operations.

Passenger amenities such as drinking water, toilets, waiting rooms, etc. will be used in a controlled and efficient manner. According to the PRO, this system has been implemented at Jaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, and Sitamarhi stations.

All these stations are among the busiest in the division, where passenger numbers increase manifold during festivals compared to normal days.

Due to the Bihar elections coinciding with Chhath Puja, a significant increase in passenger crowds is anticipated on trains this year. In response, Railway Police have been put on high alert and instructed to formulate a crowd control strategy modeled on the Mahakumbh 2025 plan. A multi-agency control room has also been established to manage the situation.

ADG Rail, Bachchu Singh Meena, recently issued comprehensive guidelines to all Rail IGs and DIGs via video conferencing. The guidelines state that due to the elections, the movement of people for Chhath will be higher than last year. All Railway Police have been directed to obtain the list of special trains being operated and implement the Mahakumbh-level crowd control strategy. Furthermore, instructions have been given to verify any incident or media report within ten minutes and report it to the ADG control room.
