The Central Government has sanctioned Rs 588.73 crore in financial assistance to Bihar for relief and recovery following recent natural disasters. This allocation is part of a broader relief package totaling Rs 1,280.35 crore, extended to states affected by calamities like floods, landslides, cyclones, and cloudbursts.
In addition to Bihar, Himachal Pradesh has been granted Rs 136.22 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 522.34 crore, and Puducherry Rs 33.06 crore. The funding follows comprehensive loss assessments conducted by central teams dispatched immediately after the disasters. These evaluations formed the basis for approving additional central assistance.
Officials stated that this aid will not only support the affected individuals but also help reinforce disaster management infrastructure in these regions. This relief is over and above the funds already provided through the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and Union Territory Disaster Response Fund (UTDRF).
During the 2024-25 fiscal year, the Centre has disbursed Rs 20,264.40 crore under SDRF to 28 states and Rs 5,160.76 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 19 states.
Additionally, Rs 4,984.25 crore has been released from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) and Rs 719.72 crore under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to enhance resilience against future disasters.
