Bihar’s tourism sector is witnessing steady growth, with the state recording over 6.54 crore domestic and 7.36 lakh foreign tourist arrivals in 2024, according to data presented by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the Lok Sabha.

Responding to a question raised by MP Dr Bhim Singh, the minister informed that Bihar ranked 11th in the country for domestic tourist footfall and 9th for foreign tourist arrivals. He attributed the rise in numbers to the historical, cultural, and religious richness of the state, along with improved tourism infrastructure and governance.

Dr Bhim Singh welcomed the figures, stating they reflect a major transformation in Bihar’s image — from being associated with fear, disorder, and migration during the era of jungle raj, to now becoming a preferred destination for both Indian and international travellers.

Tourist inflow to key destinations such as Bodh Gaya, Gaya, Nalanda, Rajgir, Vaishali, and Patna Sahib has seen a consistent rise, boosting local employment, business opportunities, and cultural pride.
