The Bihar government has begun preparations to distribute free textbooks to 1.35 crore schoolchildren ahead of the new academic session. The Education Department has directed the Bihar State Text-Book Publishing Corporation to ensure that 100 per cent of textbooks for Classes 1 to 8 reach all schools between January and February.

To ensure transparency and timely delivery, all vehicles transporting textbooks will be GPS-enabled. Additionally, coordinators of Cluster Resource Centres (Sankul Sansadhan Kendras) have been instructed to upload the class-wise student count for each school on the e-Shiksha Kosh portal.

According to the Education Department, 6.86 crore textbooks are currently being printed. Along with the books, every child will receive a student kit containing essentials such as a school bag, stationery, notebooks, colours, erasers, charts, and drawing books.

The department has also mandated coded consignments for each district to streamline and track distribution. The initiative extends beyond primary schools; students from Classes 9 to 12 in secondary and higher secondary schools will also receive free student kits this year.
