Bihar Weather: Severe Cold Grips State, Flights And Trains Affected By Dense Fog | Check Forecast

Bihar continues to reel under intense cold and dense fog as icy westerly winds sweep across the state, creating cold day conditions in many districts. According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, there is little chance of relief from the severe cold until January 1. A warning has been issued for cold day conditions along with dense fog, which has also disrupted flight and train operations.

On Saturday, visibility dropped sharply across the state. In the capital Patna, visibility was recorded at 100 metres, while Gaya reported the lowest visibility at just 50 metres. Cold day-like conditions also prevailed in Chhapra. For the past week, residents across Bihar have been struggling with persistent fog and biting cold.

The Meteorological Centre has forecast that cold day-like conditions will continue in different parts of the state till January 1, with dense fog likely to persist. Due to continuous icy westerly winds, severe cold is expected to prevail both during the day and night.

Gaya emerged as the coldest place in Bihar this season on Saturday, with the minimum temperature plunging to 5.2 degrees Celsius. Notably, Gaya was colder than Jammu city, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.1 degrees Celsius and the maximum at 18.7 degrees Celsius.

In Patna, the minimum temperature was recorded at 12.1 degrees Celsius, showing a rise of 3.1 degrees, while the maximum temperature stood at 14.8 degrees Celsius. The difference between the day and night temperatures in the capital remained at around three degrees. The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded in Dehri at 19.8 degrees Celsius.

Several districts reported minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, including Bikramganj (6.3 degrees Celsius), Aurangabad (7.4 degrees Celsius), Arwal (8.5 degrees Celsius) and Forbesganj (9.2 degrees Celsius). In Patna and adjoining areas, the chilling effect of westerly winds continued throughout the day.

According to the Meteorological Centre, a cold day is declared when the minimum temperature remains below 10 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days, and the maximum temperature drops by 4.5 to 6.4 degrees. If the minimum temperature stays below 10 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature falls by more than 6.5 degrees, the condition is termed a severe cold day.

Weather data shows that after 2022, Gaya recorded its lowest temperature on December 27, 2025, at 5.2 degrees Celsius. In comparison, the minimum temperature in Gaya was 5.7 degrees Celsius on December 28, 2022; 6.1 degrees on December 19, 2023; and 7.3 degrees Celsius on December 15, 2024.
