The first meeting of the steering committee, established to implement the new criminal laws effectively, took place in Patna on Monday. A key decision was to provide high-speed internet access to all police stations and equip prosecution officers with laptops and mobile devices.
District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh chaired the meeting held at the Patna Collectorate auditorium. District Prosecution Officer and committee member secretary, Vidyasagar Prasad, conducted the proceedings.
Attendees included Patna's Public Prosecutor Vijay Kumar Sinha, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jail Superintendent, Civil Surgeon, and the Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory.
The committee resolved to connect all prosecution-related departments to e-courts, provide high-speed internet connectivity to police stations, and equip prosecution officers with laptops and mobiles.
They also decided to implement electronic evidence collection and utilisation under the new Indian Penal Code, Indian Citizen Security Code, and Indian Evidence Act. These steps aim to expedite trials and ensure stricter punishments for criminals.
