BPSC Exam Row: Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) candidates who took to the streets to try to gherao the BPSC offices and demand that the exam be canceled were lathi-charged by the Patna Police. Following the discovery of purported irregularities, they also called for a reexamination of the BPSC exam.

For a number of days, the candidates have been demonstrating in Gardanibagh to voice their complaints about the situation.

When the students marched to the BPSC office on Wednesday evening to make their demands known, the situation escalated and the police had to use force to disperse the crowd.

Hundreds of youngsters were seen swarming the streets while brandishing placards and chanting slogans.

To keep the demonstrators under control, the police were rearranged and sent out in great numbers. The candidates reacted sharply to the police use of force and pledged to keep protesting.

Tejashwi Slams Nitish Govt

Tejashwi Yadav, a former Deputy CM and RJD leader, attacked the Nitish Kumar administration, saying, "Mentally ill individuals are ruling the state, they don't even know what is happening in Bihar? BJP has crossed the limits of hooliganism in the state."

He alleged that the BJP is “justifying the use of police brutality" against the aspirants.

“Until a few months ago, NDA leaders couldn’t stop labeling Nitish Kumar as mentally unstable, citing serious illnesses. Now, those same BJP-LJP-HAM leaders are bowing to his dictatorial decisions, justifying the use of police brutality against #BPSC aspirants and endorsing this hooliganism," he posted on X.

Despite claims of a question paper leak, BPSC Chairman Parmar Ravi Manubhai on Tuesday rejected the cancellation of the 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024, which was held earlier this month.

For applicants who showed up at the Bapu Pariksha Parisar examination center on December 13, he did affirm that the BPSC will administer a re-examination. It is planned to reexamine on January 4, 2025.
