Maharashtra High-Security Registration Plate:  In Maharashtra, the state transport department has announced that people will have to pay between Rs 531 and Rs 879 to have mandatory High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) installed on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Snap Lock fees and GST are included in the prices. The payment link was made available on Wednesday.

The cost breakdown is as follows: Rs 531 for tractors and two-wheelers (for example, motorbikes and scooters), Rs 590 for three-wheelers (for example, auto-rickshaws), and Rs 879 for larger vehicles (for instance, cars, buses, trucks, tankers, tempos, trailers).

To simplify the process, the transportation department has added an online appointment system to its website, as well as a special portal for older vehicles that require HSRP installation. To avoid penalties, vehicle owners have been asked to comply with the regulation as soon as possible.

Detailed Cost Breakdown For HSRP

According to the breakdown, each 200 x 100 mm and 285 x 45 mm HSRP plate for two-wheelers and three-wheelers will cost Rs 219.9, while the 500 x 120 mm and 340 x 200 mm plates for four-wheelers or more will cost Rs 342.41, excluding GST. For all vehicle types, snap locks and the third registration mark will cost Rs 10.18 and Rs 50, respectively, excluding GST.

The Goods and Services Tax component for affixing the HSRP is Rs 81 for two-wheelers and tractors, Rs 90 for three-wheelers, and Rs 134.10 for four-wheeled vehicles. Even ancient vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, will be provided with HSRPs on the front and rear sides, as well as a third registration mark sticker on their windshields, except two-wheelers and tractors, as required by Rule 50 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

HSRPs To Include GST And Extra Costs

Non-removable snap locks for tractors and two-wheelers are included in the rates, along with GST. For three-wheelers and four-wheeled vehicles, the price also includes the cost of the third registration mark sticker, which will be applied to the windscreen of every vehicle. According to RTO sources, the rate for HSRPs will be subject to 18% GST.

The Maharashtra Transport Commissioner's Office has set a March 31, 2025 deadline for affixing HSRPs to old vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, and has picked three agencies to carry out the task following a lengthy tendering procedure.
