Bihar Government is set to conduct a comprehensive survey of palm trees across Arwal district to ensure the effective implementation of the Chief Minister Neera Samvardhan Yojana. As part of this initiative, a detailed database of palm tree owners will be created. Simultaneously, a survey of tappers—those who extract Neera (palm nectar)—will also be conducted. A database of these tappers will be prepared, and licenses will be issued accordingly.
The Excise Department will play a key role in linking palm tree owners and tappers with Jeevika self-help groups. Additionally, training programs will be organised for all stakeholders involved, including tree owners, tappers, and Jeevika members.
Excise Superintendent Seema Chaurasia stated that the department will also arrange for the collection of Neera as part of the scheme. Bank accounts of all associated individuals will be maintained to ensure transparency. Widespread publicity and a structured accounting system will support the effective execution of the Neera Samvardhan Yojana.
Awareness campaigns will be launched to educate people about the health benefits of Neera. Officials from the state headquarters are also expected to visit the district to monitor the scheme’s progress.
Despite efforts last year, only three license holders actually produced and sold Neera, although licenses were issued to 155 individuals in the district. The government has tentatively set 15 April as the start date for this year’s Neera production and sale.
Officials believe that the poor response is mainly due to a lack of public awareness about the benefits of Neera, which in turn discouraged license holders from producing it due to low demand.
