LPG Price Hike News: The central government on Monday announced a Rs 50 increase in the price of LPG gas cylinders. This hike follows a previous rise in the excise duty on petrol and diesel, although it did not result in any change in retail prices.

The price of LPG cylinders for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will now be Rs 550, up from Rs 500. For others, the revised price will be Rs 853, an increase from Rs 803. According to the government's notification, the revised prices will be implemented from April 8.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has provided this information in a press briefing.

"The price of LPG per cylinder will increase by Rs 50. For PMUY beneficiaries, it will rise from Rs 500 to Rs 550, and for others, it will increase from Rs 803 to Rs 853. This is a step that we will review in the future. We review it every 2-3 weeks. Therefore, the burden of the increase in excise duty that you have seen will not be passed on to consumers on petrol and diesel. The purpose of that excise duty increase is to compensate the oil marketing companies for the Rs 43,000 crore loss they incurred on the gas segment," Puri said.

Earlier, a notification stated that the excise duty on petrol had been increased to Rs 13 per litre, and on diesel, it had been raised to Rs 10, according to the new order. However, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas clarified that the retail prices of petrol and diesel would remain unchanged.
