The process to select construction firms for two major Ganga Path expansion projects will begin next month, with the foundation stones for both expected to be laid before the upcoming assembly election notification.

The contractor selection for the 35.65-km Ganga Path expansion from Digha to Koilwar via Sherpur is expected to be finalised by mid-August. The project includes 18 km of elevated road and 17.657 km at grade level, with an estimated cost of Rs 5,500 crore. It will be executed under the hybrid annuity model, in which the construction company is required to invest 60 per cent of the total cost.

This road will serve as a new corridor connecting Patna to Ara and will link with the existing Koilwar bridge, significantly improving regional connectivity.

The second phase involves two major road projects:

1. Sultanganj to Bhagalpur via Sabour (40.80 km)

2. Safiabad to Bariyarpur Ghorghat via Munger (42 km)

Both roads will be constructed as four-lane stretches, partly elevated and partly at grade, under the same hybrid annuity model. The combined construction cost for these projects is estimated at Rs 9,960 crore. Contractor selection is scheduled for September.

These expansions under the Ganga Path initiative are aimed at bolstering infrastructure across Bihar’s riverfront districts, easing travel, and fostering regional development.
