A special campaign has been launched in Bihar, to provide drinking water to every household in Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe hamlets. This campaign, under the 'Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal' (Tap Water to Every Home) scheme, is being run on the instructions of Pankaj Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).

In a video conference, he directed the concerned engineers to ensure tap water reaches every home. He ordered action against negligent contractors and regular monitoring of hand pump repairs.

Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena recently reviewed the campaign and advised identifying and ensuring water supply to all deprived hamlets. Special development camps are now being organised for this purpose.

Currently, 26,843 hamlets are excluded from this scheme. The department is implementing separate plans for these hamlets, with special priority given to those inhabited by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
