Holi 2026: Bihar To Run Over 120 Subsidised AC Buses To Five States, Major Fare Cuts Announced | Details

In order to provide convenient and affordable transportation to passengers living in other states during Holi, the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation has fixed fares for bus services connecting five states. The corporation will operate more than 120 AC buses from February 15 to March 15. These buses will run from Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Purnia and Darbhanga.

Buses from these cities will operate to Delhi, Gurugram, Panipat, Ambala, Ranchi, Lucknow, and Kolkata. The maximum number of AC buses will operate, 62, for Delhi, 40 for Haryana, 10 for Jharkhand, two for Uttar Pradesh, and five for West Bengal.

The actual fare of an AC seater bus on the Delhi-Patna route is Rs 1873, while passengers have to pay only Rs 1254. A subsidy of approximately Rs 619 is being provided on this route. The actual fare of an AC sleeper bus is Rs 2812, but after the subsidy, passengers can travel for Rs 1893.

Similarly, on long routes like Delhi-Purnia, Delhi-Darbhanga, Delhi-Muzaffarpur and Delhi-Motihari, a subsidy of Rs 900 to Rs 1000 is being provided on AC sleeper buses. The actual fare of an AC sleeper bus on the Delhi-Darbhanga route is Rs 2754, while passengers have to pay only Rs 1796.

To ensure convenient and affordable travel for passengers heading to and from other states during the Holi festival, the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has announced subsidised fares on inter-state AC bus services.

The corporation will operate more than 120 air-conditioned buses between February 15 and March 15 from major cities in Bihar, including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Purnia and Darbhanga.

These buses will connect Bihar with Delhi, Gurugram, Panipat, Ambala, Ranchi, Lucknow and Kolkata. According to BSRTC officials, the highest number of services will be operated on the Delhi route, with 62 AC buses scheduled. Haryana will be connected through 40 buses, Jharkhand through 10, Uttar Pradesh through two and West Bengal through five services.

As part of the initiative, passengers will receive significant fare subsidies. On the Delhi-Patna route, the actual fare of an AC seater bus is Rs 1,873, but passengers will pay only Rs 1,254, with a subsidy of around Rs 619. The AC sleeper bus fare on the same route has been reduced from Rs 2,812 to Rs 1,893.

Subsidies of Rs 900 to Rs 1,000 are being offered on long-distance routes such as Delhi-Purnia, Delhi-Darbhanga, Delhi-Muzaffarpur and Delhi-Motihari. For instance, the AC sleeper fare on the Delhi-Darbhanga route has been reduced from Rs 2,754 to Rs 1,796.

Passengers travelling from Haryana to Bihar are also being offered fare relief. The AC sleeper fare on the Gurugram-Patna route has been cut from Rs 2,786 to Rs 1,822, while routes such as Panipat-Purnia and Faridabad-Madhubani are offering subsidies ranging from Rs 900 to Rs 1,100.

In addition, reduced fares are available on routes such as Patna-Siliguri, where the AC sleeper fare has been lowered from Rs 1,091 to Rs 921. Similar subsidies apply on Gaya-Ranchi, Patna-Dhanbad and Kolkata-Patna routes.

BSRTC officials said the move is aimed at easing festive travel during Holi and providing affordable transport options amid heavy demand.
