As the monsoon approaches, the Bihar State Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) has ramped up its preparedness to ensure swift drainage of rainwater across Patna. In addition to 56 permanent sump houses, 36 temporary sumps have been installed at key locations where permanent structures are absent. A total of 83 pumps have been set up at these temporary sump sites to facilitate rapid water disposal.
In total, 364 pumps will be deployed this monsoon to manage city drainage. Of these, 265 are electric-powered and 99 run on diesel. All units have been fully repaired and made operational. Officials have confirmed that more pumps can be deployed if necessary, depending on the intensity of rainfall.
Special attention is also being given to the Digha Canal, which receives rainwater from multiple areas stretching from Khagaul to Danapur and Digha. Sixteen pumps have been installed along the canal to aid in drainage, with eight additional pumps placed near Khanpur drain to handle excess water.
Authorities aim to minimise waterlogging across the city and ensure efficient water discharge during the rainy season.
