In a decisive move to address the city's growing population and escalating traffic pressure, District Magistrate (DM) Subrat Kumar Sen has expedited efforts to widen roads, upgrade bridges, and develop new infrastructure. Aiming for a congestion-free and safe transport system, the DM has sent several high-priority proposals to the Road Construction Department.
Widening Of Key Route: Saraiyaganj Tower To Zero Mile
The administration has identified the route extending from Saraiyaganj Tower Chowk via Akharaghat Bridge to the Zero Mile roundabout as a critical bottleneck.
Current Status: This stretch is one of the city's most congested areas, witnessing severe daily jams that hinder public movement and block emergency services.
The Proposal: The DM has stressed the need for immediate approval to widen and upgrade this entire route. This move is expected to smoothen vehicle flow and significantly improve transport facilities for citizens.
Upgrading Infrastructure At Akharaghat Bridge
The Bihar Rajya PulNirman Nigam Limited is currently constructing a high-level bridge over the Budhi Gandak river near the existing Akharaghat bridge.
Approach Roads: During a district-level review, the Senior Project Engineer confirmed that the project includes the construction of 200-meter approach roads and widening on both sides.
Connectivity: The DM emphasized that while the bridge will reduce traffic pressure, the simultaneous widening of connecting roads on both sides is essential for smooth transit. This work has been marked for the priority list.
New Rail Overbridge (ROB) Proposed
To improve connectivity between the eastern and southern parts of the city, the DM has proposed the construction of a new Rail Overbridge (ROB) between Muzaffarpur and Narayanpur Anant railway station.
Status: Necessary documents regarding the administrative approval of the revised estimate have been submitted to the Road Construction Department.
Impact: This project aims to eliminate traffic jams on this vital link and ensure uninterrupted vehicle movement.
Anti-Pollution Measures: Fencing The Budhi Gandak
In addition to traffic management, the DM has taken steps to conserve the biodiversity of the BudhiGandak river, following guidelines from the National Mission for Clean Ganga and the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
The Issue: Field visits revealed that people frequently throw worship materials (puja-samagri) and waste into the river from the Akharaghat bridge, causing water pollution.
The Action: The DM has directed the Executive Engineer of Road Division-1 to install protective fencing of suitable height on both sides of the bridge to prevent waste disposal and protect the river's ecosystem.
