Paying tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas (death anniversary) on Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced major initiatives aimed at protecting the legacy of the Dalit icon and ensuring social justice for workers.
Speaking at the Ambedkar Mahasabha, where he paid respects to Dr Ambedkar's funerary urn, the Chief Minister outlined plans for the security of statues and the welfare of Class IV employees.
Protection Of Statues And Infrastructure Development
Addressing concerns about vandalism, CM Yogi stated that "mischievous elements" often tamper with Dr Ambedkar's statues. To counter this, the state government has decided to undertake a comprehensive security initiative:
Boundary Walls And Roofs: The government will construct boundary walls around every statue of Dr Ambedkar in the state. Roofs will also be installed over statues that currently lack them to ensure their protection.
Connectivity: The CM announced that every tribal and slum settlement in the state will be connected to main roads.
2. Minimum Wage Guarantee For Contractual Workers
Responding to an issue raised by Ambedkar Mahasabha President Dr. Lalji Prasad Nirmal regarding Class IV contractual sanitation workers, the Chief Minister made a significant announcement:
New Corporation: A corporation has already been formed to address the welfare of these workers.
Minimum Honorarium: Within the next one to two months, the government will ensure a guarantee of a minimum honorarium for every Class IV and contractual worker.
Commission Formed: A commission has been established to oversee this, and the benefits will start reaching employees shortly.
Commitment To Social Justice And 'New India'
CM Yogi emphasised that his government is leaving no stone unturned in implementing the Constitution drafted by Dr Ambedkar.
Panch Tirth: He highlighted the development of 'Panch Tirth' sites and new scholarship schemes for SC or ST students as efforts to advance Baba Saheb’s ideals.
Tribute: "Whatever facilities and respect the deprived classes are receiving today is a result of the inspiration given by Baba Saheb. Under PM Modi's leadership, the country is moving towards a 'New India'," he said.
Proposal To Include Constitution In Curriculam
Dr Lalji Prasad Nirmal, President of the Dr Ambedkar Mahasabha Trust and MLC, revealed that he had met CM Yogi on Friday to present a copy of the Constitution.
Educational Reform: Dr Nirmal urged the Chief Minister to include the Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties, Directive Principles, and the federal structure of the Constitution in government school curricula to educate the younger generation.
Remarks By Deputy CMs
Brajesh Pathak: The Deputy CM attacked the Congress party, holding them responsible for the historic exploitation of Dalits and for defeating Dr Ambedkar in elections.
Keshav Prasad Maurya: He stated that participating in the SIR campaign to purify electoral rolls is a true tribute to Baba Saheb, ensuring everyone can exercise their voting rights.
