Residents of Muzaffarpur are set to soon benefit from air connectivity as air services are scheduled to commence from Patahi Airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated the tender process for the airport’s development, allowing companies to download relevant documents.

The deadline for bid submission is November 17, 2025, with the first bid opening on  November 21 and the final bid on December 5. A pre-bid meeting will be held in Delhi on October 27 to clarify project details.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced the approval on his social media handle, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Under the plan, Patahi Airport will feature a 1,050-metre-long and 30-metre-wide runway, an apron with space for two aircraft, and a terminal building of approximately 1,250 square metres. The master plan allows for future expansion to accommodate larger aircraft and additional facilities.

Officials stated that small aircraft services can begin on the existing 106-acre site, with minimal additional land acquisition required. However, to launch larger air services, over 400 acres would need to be acquired, affecting several nearby villages and causing potential displacement. Following surveys and public protests, plans for large-scale expansion are still under consideration.

The airport is expected to improve connectivity between North Bihar and major cities across the country, easing travel and creating new opportunities for employment and trade.
