In a major step toward upgrading railway facilities in North Bihar, plans have been finalised to construct two washing pits at Narayanpur Anant station. The new pit lines will be developed in the stretch between the goods shed and wagon depot, allowing trains to be washed without disrupting operations.

A joint survey by officials from the engineering, operations, and signalling departments has been completed, and the proposal has been sent to the Samastipur Divisional Manager. After review, it will be forwarded to the Railway Board through East Central Railway for final approval. Once approved, tenders will be issued for construction.

With the new facilities at Narayanpur Anant, the existing washing pits at Muzaffarpur Junction will be removed, paving the way for three new platforms. This expansion will help Muzaffarpur become the largest railway junction in North Bihar, with plans to increase its platform count from eight to up to 11 or 12. The upgrade is expected to facilitate the departure of major trains, including the Rajdhani Express, from Muzaffarpur.

The washed pits in Muzaffarpur, located near platforms four and five, currently reduce platform width and hinder station aesthetics. Their removal will free up space and improve passenger movement.
