A 75-year-old medical shop owner, Shardanand Gupta, was killed in a horrific hit-and-run accident on Wednesday morning while on his daily walk at Kangan Ghat in the Chowk police station area. He died instantly at the scene.
According to his wife, Urmila Gupta, he left home in Hajiganj at 3:30 am for his routine walk. Residents reported seeing him at Kangan Ghat around 4:30 am. It is suspected that he was struck and run over by a speeding, loaded tipper truck while crossing the road after praying at a nearby temple.
Aftermath And Identification
The victim's body lay unidentified on the road for nearly two hours as local residents gathered at the scene. Around 7 am, local social workers identified Mr Gupta and immediately informed his family and the Chowk police.
Upon arrival, police sent the body to Nalanda Medical College for a post-mortem examination. Family members, including his wife and son, were distraught when they reached the site.

A Family Tragedy
The incident is compounded by a tragic family situation. Relatives revealed that Mr Gupta's son, Abhishek, was already hospitalised with gallstones. The father was scheduled to admit his son for a major abdominal operation today—the very day he was killed.

Local residents have expressed ongoing concerns about the danger posed by speeding tipper trucks, lorries, and tractors that frequently use the route. Police are investigating the incident.
