Bihar News:  The Resident Doctor Association (RDA) of the All India Institute of Medical Science, Patna, has announced a complete shutdown of elective services and a conditional shutdown of emergency services from 9:00 AM on August 1. This move came in response to a shocking incident that occurred on July 30 when Chetan Anand, MLA (Sheohar), his wife Dr Ayushi Singh, and his armed guards forcibly entered the hospital area, allegedly assaulted security staff, and threatened resident doctors with death.

The RDA wrote a letter to the hospital’s medical superintendent demanding legal action against MLA Chetan and the deployment of adequate and permanent security personnel in the hospital premises.

What Led To The Huge Protest By Patna AIIMS Doctors?

According to the RDA, MLA Chetan Anand, with his wife, Dr Arushi, and armed guards, forcibly entered the hospital premises around 11:00 PM on July 30. “They physically assaulted security staff, threatened resident doctors with death and brandished a firearm within hospital premises," the RDA alleged in the letter, reported by news agency PTI.

One of the security guards reportedly sustained injuries, and on-duty doctors were not only verbally abused but also were left shaken by the life-threatening intimidation. The resident doctors have announced that the services will not be resumed unless MLA issues an apology for his conduct.

What MLA Chetan Anand Stated?

While registering a counter-complaint against the AIIMS staffers at the Phulwari Sharif Police Station, the MLA alleged that the staff members misbehaved with him when he visited the hospital with his wife. “My wife and I went to see one of my supporters admitted at AIIMS on Wednesday night. I was not allowed to enter the hospital with my security guard. This prompted my wife to intervene,” Anand said in his complaint.

“At that moment, other staff members came and started misbehaving with my wife. They literally thrashed her. I had to intervene. My wife sustained injuries to her wrist and back. I was also held hostage by the staff for some time. Finally, we went to the local police station and lodged a complaint,” he added.

Phulwari Sharif Police Station SHO confirmed that both parties have registered a complaint. The situation has escalated into a huge protest. Meanwhile, hundreds of patients continue to bear the brunt of the crisis, as medical services remain suspended.
