Patna's Civil Surgeon, Dr Avinash Kumar Singh, has appealed for the launch of a special campaign, '10 o'clock, 10 minutes', to prevent dengue. Under this campaign, citizens have been requested to spend 10 minutes every day at 10 am checking their homes and surrounding areas for stagnant water in places such as coolers, plant pots, old utensils, or broken tyres.
Singh explained that the Aedes mosquito, the main carrier of dengue, breeds only in stagnant and clean water. Therefore, the spread of this disease can be prevented by avoiding water accumulation in homes.
The Civil Surgeon stated that dengue is a viral disease primarily spread by the bite of the Aedes mosquito. This mosquito is most active during the day, especially in the morning and evening. To protect against it, measures such as using mosquito nets and wearing clothes that cover the body have been strongly advised.
