Patna Double- Decker: The completion of Patna's first double-decker flyover has been postponed, with officials now stating that the project will not be finished until March 2025. Initially, the flyover was expected to be completed by February, but delays have arisen due to land being occupied by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) for the Patna metro rail project.
Patna Double-Decker Flyover Connecting THESE Roads
The foundation stone for this ambitious project was laid by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in December 2021. The flyover, spanning 2.2 kilometres, is designed to ease traffic congestion on the busy Ashok Rajpath, providing a vital connection between Gandhi Maidan and NIT More. It will allow vehicles to move across three levels, with parking space planned underneath the structure.

Patna Double- Decker Flyover: 91 Per Cent Work Completed
The Times Of India report quoted the Engineers as stating that, approximately 91 per cent of the civil work has been completed, with the remaining 9 per cent scheduled for completion within the next month. Ongoing tasks include the installation of expansion joints, wearing coats, crack barriers, side railings, noise barriers, service roads, hanging gardens on pillars and painting.
The project, which has a budget of Rs 442 crore, features two distinct tiers aimed at alleviating traffic congestion. The first level stretches 1.5 km along the educational corridor, connecting Patna College to BN College, while the second level extends 2.2 km from Kargil Chowk to Science College, with both levels consisting of two lanes each. Each traffic level is designed to be 7.5 metres wide to accommodate smooth vehicular movement.
According to project engineers, all 120 pillars have been constructed and 106 out of 112 spans have been completed. This includes essential components such as deck slabs and girders that form the driving surface of the flyover. Currently, slab work is ongoing between pillars 25 to 32 and 41 to 43, specifically from the Public Health Institute to the PMCH.
Data from the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) indicates that 99 per cent of the substructure work and 88 per cent of the superstructure work are now complete. Engineers have managed to build 16 spans within a month, leaving only 14 slabs to be finished, which are expected to be completed this month.
The Times Of India report quoted an engineer as explaining, "Between September and January, we intensified our construction efforts significantly. Our project could have met its original deadline if not for the occupation of land near Anjuman Islamiya Hall and PMCH. With ongoing work for the underground station of the Patna metro, we have pushed the deadline for the flyover to the end of March. The flyover should be ready for traffic by April".

Patna Double Decker Flyover: Features
The flyover will provide direct access to JP Ganga Path via Krishna Ghat, featuring five ramps for vehicles to enter and exit at key locations such as Patna University, Patna College, BN College and Kargil Chowk. The construction of these ramps has already been completed. Moreover, the flyover will link with a proposed multi-storey car parking facility at PMCH, which will help ambulances bypass traffic congestion and reach the hospital more quickly.
In addition to the current spans, 12 more will be constructed from pillar 26 to the PMCH's multi-level car park, which will commence only after the new hospital building is ready. Once the flyover is complete, traffic will be diverted to the two upper levels while repairs are made to the existing road at ground level, a process expected to take three weeks. Officials also mentioned that parking space will be created under the flyover to accommodate the high volume of vehicles in this commercial area.
