Patna Metro News: After a delay from the scheduled trial run on August 15 between Malahi Pakadi and the New ISBT Patna metro stretch, Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) is set to begin a trial run any day after August 20.
- The Patna metro is progressing steadily with the aim to provide efficient, cost-effective, comfortable and reliable public transport to the city. The earlier trial, planned on August 15, was suspended after incomplete depot work.
- The Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRCL) is targeting to commence metro services for the public by the end of September 2025.
Patna Metro Trial Run Update
The first trial run of the Patna Metro will take place on the Priority Corridor, which spans 6-6.5 kilometres of elevated track from Malahi Pakri to New ISBT (Patliputra Bus Terminal). This section includes five stations: New ISBT, Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhootnath Road, and Zero Mile/Bypass. Civil work on these stations is over 90% complete, with the remaining work progressing rapidly.
During the trial run, the reliability of the metro's signalling system, speed, track safety, and other technical systems will be thoroughly checked. The metro will be allowed to start passenger services only after it passes a trial run check.
The Urban Development Minister had reviewed the project's progress and instructed a thorough check of all facilities and safety standards.
Patna Metro Malahi Pakadi - New ISBT
PMRCL aims to start metro services between Malahi Pakadi and New ISBT by the end of September 2025, subject to the success of the trial runs and regulatory approvals. Initially, services will commence on the Priority Corridor, with other sections of the Blue Line being launched in phases.
Regular commuters between Malahi Pakadi and New ISBT will benefit the most from the metro service, saving time and reducing traffic congestion and pollution. The metro's launch is expected to decrease road congestion and air pollution in the city.
Patna Metro Blue Line Update
The Patna Metro Blue Line will be 14.56 kilometres long, starting from Patna Junction to New ISBT, with approximately 6.6 kilometres of elevated track and the rest underground. After the Priority Corridor, other sections will be launched in phases. Malahi Pakadi station is planned to be a key hub in this corridor.
