Patna Metro: Patna is moving closer to launching its metro service, as the Bihar government has approved a plan to rent a three-coach train set for three years. This train, originally built for the Pune Metro, will be used to begin metro operations in the city. The project will cost the state over Rs 21.15 crore for the rental period.

Patna Metro Update: DMRC To Handle Metro Corridor Operations

The state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved this and several other infrastructure proposals during its meeting on Tuesday. It was also decided that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will take charge of operating and maintaining the priority corridor of the Patna Metro. The maintenance work will be carried out from August 2025 to March 2028 at a cost of Rs 179.37 crore.

The train set selected for Patna comes fitted with an onboard signalling system. Officials said that hiring the train instead of purchasing one is more cost-effective at this stage. According to Additional Chief Secretary Dr S. Siddharth, this move is part of ongoing efforts by both the Centre and the Bihar government to make the metro service operational soon.

The Patna Metro is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time and offer a modern public transport option. It is also likely to boost tourism and create employment opportunities in the city.

 

BLOs To Receive Additional Rs 6,000 For Voter List Revision

Apart from the metro project, the cabinet approved a series of other decisions. One such move includes an additional payment of Rs 6,000 to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO supervisors who are currently working on the special revision of the voter list. A total of Rs 51.68 crore has been cleared for this purpose, which will benefit over 77,000 BLOs and more than 8,000 supervisors.
