In a breakthrough for neurological care, IGIMS has commenced non-invasive brain surgeries using the newly installed Biplane Cardiovascular Cath Lab System DSA (Digital Subtraction Angiography). The Rs 14-crore machine, already used for cardiac procedures, was recently employed to treat a brain aneurysm patient without any surgical incision.

Dr Ravi Vishnu, Head of the Cardiology Department, confirmed that the system allows critical procedures like stent placement and clot removal in both heart and brain patients without open surgery. Featuring two X-ray cameras, the machine produces real-time 3D images, enabling precise diagnosis and intervention.

The technology significantly reduces the use of contrast dye and radiation exposure. Most importantly, it enables treatment within the golden window of 4 to 6 hours, crucial for preventing long-term damage from strokes and heart attacks.

With this development, patients suffering from serious conditions like brain hemorrhage, aneurysms, or vascular blockages no longer need to travel outside Bihar for advanced treatment. The IGIMS team believes the new system marks a major step forward in delivering fast, effective, and minimally invasive care.
