Patients at PMCH will soon have access to free MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and CT scan (Computed Tomography) services. The machines have arrived at the newly inaugurated PMCH building, and installation is underway. After the necessary trials, the services will be operational.
The hospital administration has already sent a letter to the government for the appointment or deputation of MRI and CT scan technicians to expedite the process. If all goes well, free MRI and CT scan services will be available from June. Currently, both services operate under a PPP model at reduced rates.
With the new machines, these services will be entirely free. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Health Minister Mangal Pandey inaugurated two towers of the first phase of the PMCH redevelopment project on Saturday.

The MRI and CT scan machines are to be installed in the second tower. PMCH Superintendent, Dr IS Thakur, stated that PMCH receives two to two and a half thousand patients daily. The government provides all treatment, medicines, and diagnostic facilities. Doctors recommend CT scans and MRIs for about a hundred patients every day. Currently, these are conducted using the PPP model machines.
The new machines are expected to be operational soon. OPD services in the new building will start from May 15th, initially with Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and PSM departments. Later, eight more departments, including Pediatrics, Cardiology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, will start OPD services.
Dr Thakur added that patient admissions, OPD, and emergency services will be operational in the two new towers in a phased manner. OPD services will start first, followed by emergency and admission services. The hospital has requested the necessary resources, and services will commence once they are received.
