An individual accused of raping a minor girl in a village within the Salimpur police station area has escaped from police custody after being arrested. He fled late at night after giving his guard the slip.
A case of rape was reported in a village on Wednesday. Following a complaint from the family, police took swift action, conducted intensive raids, and apprehended the accused from the village.
Upon being brought to the police station, the accused was kept in the station's sirista (record room) instead of the main lock-up. Other individuals arrested in different cases were being held in the lock-up. A guard had been assigned to watch over him.
Police were reportedly busy with patrolling and other duties related to the assembly elections. Taking advantage of this, the accused removed a rod from the window of the sirista at some point late at night and escaped.
The escape was discovered in the morning when the door to the sirista was opened, causing a panic among the staff. A search was conducted in the surrounding area, but he could not be found. Police have since launched a series of raids, although the accused had not been located by the afternoon.
