The construction of Patna Metro’s first underground tunnel, stretching from Moin-ul-Haq Stadium to Patna University, is expected to be completed by March. The 1.5-kilometre-long tunnel is part of the Corridor-2 of the metro rail project, which will connect Rajendra Nagar to Gandhi Maidan.
The excavation work for the tunnel and the underground station near the stadium began in April 2023, using two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). The officials said that the work is progressing smoothly, despite the challenges posed by the clay soul and the alignment of the metro.
Once the tunnel is completed, the TBMs will be removed and the digging will continue from Patna University station to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) Station. Meanwhile, another tunnel is being dug from Gandhi Maidan to Akashvani, which started recently.

The state cabinet approved the transfer of 0.498 acres of land near the cricket stadium to the Urban Development and Housing Department on Monday for the construction of the underground station. The station will be two-storeyed, 202 metres long and 21 metres wide and the metro rail will run about 18 metres below the ground surface.
Patna Metro, which aims to boost connectivity in the state capital, will be operated by Patna Metro Rail Corporation. The Patna MRTS project will be built in five phases with an estimated cost of Rs 1,33,657 million. Currently, the digging of the 1.5-kilometre tunnel from Moin-ul-Haq stadium to Patna University is to be completed by March 2024. Many such tunnels are to be built which will be followed by electricity lines and track work on the metro corridor.
