The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) re-issued tenders to transfer the operations of the metro corridors including the Red Line and the Green Line to private agencies. The tender process for the Red Line was initiated in October last year but was halted due to technical reasons. DMRC later on January 2 invited fresh bids from interested parties along with initiating the tender process for the Green Line on the same day.

The Red Line, which is the oldest corridor of the Delhi Metro, connects Rithala to Shaheed Sthal New Bus Stand Ghaziabad, while the Green Line runs from Kirti Nagar to Inderlok and Bahadurgarh, covering a total of 64.2 kilometres and 52 stations.

Recently, DMRC also took the initiative to give tenders to private agencies on the Violet Line of Delhi Metro, which runs between Kashmiri Gate and Ballabgarh. Currently, the Yellow Line of the Delhi metro is the only corridor that is being operated by a private company, stretching from Samaypur Badli to Millenium City Centre Gurugram.

The private agencies are expected to take charge of the metro operations on these two lines by October-November 2024. DMRC will spend around Rs 65 crore on this project.

Under this project, the private agencies will be given the responsibility of operating the metro on these lines for a total period of six years. The private agency will appoint and train its own staff, including 221 drivers for the Red Line and 143 drivers for the Green Line.
