Under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana’, a total of 1,517 small irrigation projects have received administrative approval for implementation in the financial year 2024–25. These projects, overseen by the Minor Water Resources Department, are part of the government’s Seven Nischay-02 initiative and are being executed under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan .
A budget of Rs 233.48 crore has been allocated for these projects, which aim to provide irrigation facilities across 1,87,115.22 hectares in a systematic manner. So far, 765 projects have been completed, bringing irrigation coverage to 1,11,654 hectares.

The projects primarily involve the construction and development of traditional water bodies such as ahar-pain (with an area over one acre), ponds and tanks (over five acres), and structures like check dams and weirs. Over 80 per cent of these projects are concentrated in the districts of South Bihar, particularly in plateau regions.
Jamui district leads with the highest number of approved projects (391), followed by Gaya (266), Banka (242), and Aurangabad (173). Other notable districts include Bhagalpur (72), Kaimur (66), and Nawada (53). Fewer projects have been sanctioned in Siwan and Buxar (1 each) and Arwal and Chhapra (4 each). Patna and Sheikhpura have received 30 projects each, while Lakhisarai and Madhubani have 37 and 31 projects, respectively.
