In a major initiative to promote the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, the Bihar government plans to develop one village in each district as a Model Solar Village.
The Director of BREDA has instructed all District Magistrates to select suitable villages based on set criteria and submit their lists promptly to initiate the next phase of the project.
According to guidelines issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, seven criteria will guide the village selection process. Notably, selected villages must have a population of over 5,000. A district-level committee will oversee the process, and a competitive assessment will determine the final selection.
Villages will be evaluated based on the total distributed solar capacity installed within their revenue boundaries. During the six-month competition period, the village that achieves the highest installed solar capacity will be declared the Model Solar Village.
