Patna Junction is set for a major overhaul to make travel faster, safer, and more convenient for passengers. A joint initiative by the railways and the state government aims to transform the historic station into a modern transport hub, introducing a new underground subway and a direct metro connection. This development will reduce travel time to the station, ease platform changes, and minimise passenger inconvenience, marking a new era for Patna’s transportation network.

Patna Metro: Underground Subway And Facility 

The new underground subway will allow passengers to move between platforms safely and efficiently, avoiding crowded foot overbridges. The facility will feature modern lighting, CCTV surveillance, ramps, and escalators to assist the elderly, differently-abled, and children, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for all travelers.

Patna Junction-Buddha Smriti Park Metro Connectivity Upgrade

1. The new subway will connect with the existing one through a pre-planned access point and be equipped with escalators, lifts and travelators to handle heavy passenger movement.

2. These facilities will make commuting easier for elderly passengers, children and those carrying luggage.

3. Officials believe the project will greatly improve convenience at Patna Junction, which witnesses extremely high daily footfall.

4. The Buddha Smriti Park metro station will function as an interchange for Patna Metro’s two main corridors, one from Danapur via Bailey Road and Patna Junction, and the other from PMCH through Gandhi Maidan.

5. Stations for both corridors are being built on separate underground levels to ensure smooth and easy movement between the routes.

Advisory

At present, construction work has caused temporary changes in traffic movement. The main entrance of Patna Junction has been shut, and narrow alternate routes have been provided for both pedestrians and vehicles. Officials said these arrangements will continue until the project is completed.
