Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur, has announced that patient care in the unclaimed ward will now be handled by staff deployed through an outsourcing agency. The ward’s cleaning and maintenance will remain the responsibility of the hospital’s contracted cleaning agency.
The directive was issued by Principal-cum-Superintendent Dr Abha Rani Sinha, who instructed Deputy Superintendent Dr Satish Kumar Singh to immediately restore facilities for unclaimed patients. Doctors have also been asked to ensure daily treatment of these patients according to their medical needs.

Dr Sinha emphasised that the hospital administration is committed to the welfare of individuals with no caregivers. She admitted she was unaware of the deteriorating condition of the ward until the issue was highlighted in the media. On September 11, Dainik Jagran reported that the state’s first unclaimed ward itself had been left neglected, prompting the administration to take urgent corrective steps.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has issued an alert regarding the rising risk of dengue and chikungunya. District Vector-Borne Disease Officer Dr Sudhir Kumar informed that isolation wards for dengue patients will be established at SKMCH and the model hospital.
The Municipal Corporation has been directed to conduct regular fogging in urban areas, while a joint campaign with ASHA workers and other departments will focus on eliminating mosquito larvae.
The period until November is considered highly conducive to the spread of dengue. To tackle the situation, nodal officers will be appointed from Primary Health Centres (PHCs) up to the model hospital to ensure platelet availability for patients.
