Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo cracked the whip to expel his eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav from the party and family on Sunday. The development came as a huge shock for many, especially seeing it coming from none other than the former CM.
In a post on X, Lalu Prasad Yadav said, "Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice. The activities, public conduct and irresponsible behavior of the eldest son are not in accordance with our family values and traditions. Therefore, due to the above circumstances, I remove him from the party and family. From now on, he will not have any role of any kind in the party and family. He is expelled from the party for 6 years."
"He is capable of seeing the good and bad and merits and demerits of his personal life. All those who will have relations with him should take their own decisions. I have always been an advocate of public shame in public life. The obedient members of the family have adopted and followed this idea in public life," he added.
Why was Tej Pratap expelled?
Although Lalu Yadav didn't mention the catalyst event, the development comes on the heels of an incident in which an image of Tej Pratap and a girl was shared from the expelled RJD leader's Facebook page.
In the post caption, the girl was referred to as his partner. The post read, "I am Tej Pratap Yadav and the one seen in this picture is Anushka Yadav. We have been known to each other for the last 12 years. We are in love and have been in a relationship for 12 years."
The post went viral and stirred controversy. Tej Pratap later claimed that his FB account was hacked. Taking to X, he said, "My social media platform has been hacked, and my photos are being edited in a malicious way to harass and defame me and my family. I appeal to my well-wishers and followers to stay vigilant and not pay attention to any rumours..."
After the post went viral, users recalled his troubles with ex-wife Aishwarya Rai, to whom the former Bihar minister was married in 2018. The marriage ended with a high-profile legal battle.

Tej Pratap's past controversies
However, Yadav is not unknown to controversies. Several past incidents have raised questions about his political and personal lives.
Forced cop to dance: In March this year, Tej Pratap's video surfaced from the Holi celebrations in which he was seen forcing an on-duty police constable to dance in Patna. He was heard saying Thumka nahi lagaoge toh suspend kar denge” (If you don’t dance, you’ll be suspended).
The cop complied and danced briefly. After the incident triggered an outcry, the policeman was suspended.
Fined for riding unfit scooter, no helmet: During the Holi celebration this year, he was also fined Rs 4,000 for riding a scooter near the Bihar CM's residence without a helmet. The scooter was also found to have expired insurance and a pollution certificate.
Slapped ex-MLC in Iftar Party: In another controversial incident, the former Bihar minister allegedly slapped ex-MLC and party leader Anil Samrat during an Iftar Party in 2022. However, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari denied any such incident later.
Called RJD state chief 'Hitler': In 2021, Yadav called RJD state unit chief Jagandanand Singh 'Hitler'. He said, "Jagadanand Singh goes everywhere and speaks like Hitler. There is a huge difference when I used to come to the party office earlier and now. When my father was there, the party gate was always open, but now many people have started doing their own arbitrariness. The chair is not someone's inheritance." This reportedly triggered an intensified feud between Yadav and Singh.
Floated another youth organisation: In the same year, he also floated a new youth outfit, 'Chhatra Janshakti Parishad', different from the RJD's youth wing. Although he claimed that he formed it with his father Lalu Yadav's blessings, the outfit was largely considered as an outcome of his speculated resentment for being sidelined in the party.
Troubled marriage: Apart from political life, Taj Pratap's personal life is also not alien to controversies. In 2018, he was married to Aishwarya Rai, the daughter of former Bihar CM Daroga Rai. Within five months, the relationship reached a point where the couple decided to part ways. Yadav filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
Rai, on the other hand, walked out of Lalu–Rabri's house accusing the in-laws of torture and harassment. The case got significant media attention.
Accusations of being drug addict: Later, Rai made another explosive claim. She accused Tej Pratap of being a drug addict. She often dressed up as Lord Radha, Krishna, and Shiva, asserting to be their avatar, she claimed.
