Shreyasi Singh, the BJP MLA from Jamui, was sworn in as a minister in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet on November 20. She entered politics in 2020 and recently won the Bihar Assembly election, defeating RJD candidate Shamshad Alam by over 54,000 votes. 

After taking the oath as a minister of Bihar, Shreyasi said, “I express gratitude towards the people of Jamui and my family members. The Cabinet, which took oath today, comprises both youth and experienced leaders.”

Who Is Shreyasi Singh? 

Shreyasi Singh, an Arjuna Award-winning shooter and prominent sportsperson, comes from a distinguished political family. Her father, the late Digvijay Singh, was a Union minister, and her mother, Putul Kumari, served as a Member of Parliament. Joining the BJP in 2020, she secured her first electoral victory by defeating RJD’s Vijay Prakash Yadav by 41,049 votes. Her latest, more commanding win has further strengthened the BJP’s foothold in Jamui.

Shreyasi Singh Sports And Education Background 

Shreyasi Singh is an accomplished sportsperson with a remarkable track record in shooting. She secured a gold medal in the Women’s Double Trap event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, and had earlier won a silver in the same event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Additionally, she earned a bronze medal in the Double Trap team event at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon and represented India at the 2013 Trap Shooting World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico.

In recognition of her achievements, Shreyasi received the prestigious Arjuna Award. She was also part of India’s contingent for the Paris Olympics 2024. Beyond her sporting career, Singh holds a postgraduate degree, having completed an MBA from Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies in 2018, before transitioning into politics.

According to her election affidavit, Shreyasi Singh owns assets worth Rs 7.6 crore, has liabilities of Rs 13.3 lakh, and reported an annual income of Rs 94.2 lakh, as reported by The Hindu.

NDA Returned In Bihar

The NDA returned to power, and Nitish Kumar took oath as the chief minister of Bihar for a record tenth term. The alliance secured a victory, winning 202 of the 243 Assembly seats, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 89 seats, closely followed by the JD(U) with 85.

Jamui, part of the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency, was earlier represented by Chirag Paswan, the chief of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
